Inspired by the everything bagel, the true name behind the seasoning is due to its mix of ingredients. While everything bagel toppings vary from shop to shop, the majority of them are some combination of sesame seeds, poppy seeds, onion and garlic. This homemade everything bagel seasoning includes all of those, plus a touch of high quality sea salt to enhance the flavours. Read on for this gem of a recipe.
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- 2 tablespoons poppy seeds
- 1 ½ tablespoons dried minced garlic
- 1 ½ tablespoons dried minced onion
- 2 teaspoons flaked/coarse sea salt
- Simply mix all the ingredients together. Store in a sealed jar for up to 3 months.
Optional: to intensify the flavours, it is highly recommended that you lightly toast the seasoning first. Simply throw all ingredients into a pan on medium heat and toast until golden brown. Be careful not to burn!
