THESE 5 HOMEMADE SNACKS WILL WIN OVER YOUR KID’S HEARTS AND TUMMIES!

THESE 5 HOMEMADE SNACKS WILL WIN OVER YOUR KID’S HEARTS AND TUMMIES!

Meals are alright, but snacks are what I live for. When I was a kid, my mom would always add a snack or two to my lunch. Sometimes they were veggies, other times they were fruit roll ups. Either way, I was jazzed!

My favourite snacks were always the homemade ones. I knew that no other kids’ could compare their store-bought snacks to my ma’s handcrafted treats. They’re not only a great way to help manage your children’s diets, but also to get them involved in the baking process.

Give these homemade snacks a try and you may end up being the parent of the year.

1. Healthy No Bake Granola Bars

When recess comes around, your kids will need an energy boost to carry them over to lunch time. These nutritious bars are naturally sweetened with dates and honey, have a satisfying crunch, and taste more like a treat than a healthy snack. You can also easily sub in different nuts and seeds to satisfy your kid’s taste buds. Who says healthy eating can’t taste delicious?

2. Heart Happy Chocolate Chunk Cookies

After a heart-healthy lunch, a heart-healthy treat is well deserved. Featuring the goodness of tofu and oats and the delicious, kid-friendly chocolate chips, these cookies know no wrong. Trade the dark chocolate for milk chocolate if your children aren’t used to the darker stuff. This is also a pretty easy recipe to make for your kid’s class or the school bake sale!

3. Crunchy Roasted Chickpea Snacks

To this day, I still eat roasted chickpeas by the handful. They’re one of my all-time favourite snacks because of their unique flavour, their crunch, and the fact that they’re actually filling. Your kids will love this easy-to-pack snack for whenever their next meal is still hours away, but their tummy needs a little something. Pack a handful in a small container for them to snack on throughout the day.

4. Chocolate Tahini Oat Bites

Featuring a real brown sugar-y flavour from the naturally sweet Medjool dates, these oat bites are a reward for a job well done. The tahini gives these bites a grainier, smoother taste than you’d get with peanut butter, allowing for this snack to filled with unique flavours you may not find in any other treat. It’s perfect after a long, mentally and socially exhausting day at school.

5. Yogurt Bark

Perfect for the warmer months of the school year, this after-school snack is the healthy, delicious way to cool off. Heck, they could even have it for breakfast if they’d like! It’s incredibly easy to whip up, and it’s guaranteed to be a favourite in your household. Try various fruit pairings to change it up from time to time.
