Pantry Spices
Collect a few of your favourite flavours from your spice cabinet and toast them in a pan over medium heat. Mustard seeds, fennel seeds, cumin seeds, chili flakes are all great choices for beans. By toasting these spices in a pan with a splash of olive oil, releases the spices natural oils and releases even more flavour than you could imagine. Once the spices are heated up you can add the beans to the pan to heat up or add the spices to the beans at eat them cold. Both taste great!
Aromatics
Adding some grated fresh garlic or some fresh citrus zest will add a layer of freshness to your canned beans. Garnish with some chopped shallots or pickled red onions and you’re good to go!
Fresh Herbs
Garnishing with some fresh herbs liven up a basic can of beans. Try herbs like mint, parsley, cilantro, chives or dill to give your dish some life!
Texture
Having different textures in your food keeps it interesting. Add some crispy produce like chopped celery, snap peas, cabbage, or even some bread crumbs or toasted nuts and seeds.
