Slow Simmered Bolognese and Spaghetti

The joy of sipping a glass of red wine while watching a big pot of simmering pasta sauceĀ isĀ one of the things I look forward toĀ mostĀ when those winter nights creep in.Ā Growing up,Ā pasta was myĀ favouriteĀ meal and my go-to dinnerĀ forĀ every special occasion. As an adult,Ā this hasn’t changed, andĀ a pasta dishĀ is now one of myĀ preferredĀ meals to cook!Ā Ā Ā Ā 

A pastaĀ dinnerĀ is perfectĀ for sharingĀ with friendsĀ asĀ it is easy to make a big batchĀ and there are so many dishes to choose from.Ā It is such an easy and tasty addition to your weekly meal plan. There is an impressive selection ofĀ pasta sauces that are tastyĀ either straight from the jar or superĀ easy to amplify, forĀ thatĀ personalizedĀ touch.Ā 

Bolognese sauce is one of myĀ favourites,Ā there are many variations to this well-known and much-loved meat-based Italian dish.Ā What isĀ commonĀ across theĀ various takes on this classic dish is that it is quite simply delicious!Ā 

Grab your ingredients, yourĀ favouriteĀ spaghetti, a loaf of bread andĀ red wineĀ of your choiceĀ and cook up this tasty pork Bolognese.Ā Ā Ā

Slow Simmered Bolognese and Spaghetti

Ingredients

1/4 tsp of crushed red pepper flakesĀ Ā 

1 small yellow onion finely choppedĀ Ā 

228Ā onzĀ canĀ ofĀ diced tomatoesĀ Ā Ā 

1Ā lbĀ ground porkĀ Ā 

Splash of Red wineĀ Ā Ā 

4 tbsp of Be Fresh Extra Virgin Olive oilĀ Ā Ā 

1 tsp of salt and pepper and more to tasteĀ Ā 

1 tbsp fresh chopped basilĀ Ā 

1 tsp dried oreganoĀ Ā 

1 tbsp saltĀ Ā 

1Ā lbĀ dried spaghettiĀ Ā 


Instructions

In a large pot over medium heat, add your olive oil, red pepper flakes, onions and garlic. Cook for about 4-5 minutes or until the onions begin to soften. Add your ground pork and break up into small pieces and brown all the way through. Add a splash of red wine to deglaze the pot and get all the good brown bits off the bottom of the pot.Ā Ā Ā 

Add your canned diced tomatoes and stir and add your seasonings, basil, salt and dried oregano and stir well.Ā Ā 

Cover the pot and turn the heat down to low and allow to gently simmer for at least 30 minutes until the liquid has evaporated and you have a thick meat sauce in the pot. Taste and season to perfection. While the sauce is simmering prepare the pasta with instructions on the package (don’t forget to salt your water!)Ā Ā Ā
