5 Perfect Sides For A Sunday Roast

Now that the cooler weather is here, we don’t have to worry about turning on the oven and heating your entire home with the blasting heat of summer and the oven. Cooler weather to me also means slow roasted Sunday meals, and a classic in my house is a Sunday roast. Here are 5 perfect sides to add to your next roast!

Twice Baked Potatoes

Can you have a roast for dinner without potatoes? Mashed, roasted, twice baked, whichever way you love your potatoes they are a must.  These twice-baked potatoes are easy to make while preparing all your other sides and are equally as delicious.  Pioneer Woman’s Twice Baked Potato

Yorkshire pudding

Yorkshire puddings were a must while growing up. They are a common English side dish that is baked and can be served in many different ways but most commonly served as a side to a roast, soaked in gravy. Here is how you make them: You need 3 eggs1 cup milk1 cup all-purpose flour and 2 tablespoons butter

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F and in a medium bowl, beat eggs with milk. Stir in flour. Set aside. Divide butter evenly into the twelve cups of a muffin tin, about 1/2 teaspoon per cup. Place the tin in the oven to melt butter, 2 to 5 minutes. Remove the tin from the oven, and distribute batter evenly among buttery cups. Bake in preheated oven 5 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F, and bake 25 minutes more or until puffed and golden.

Mushroom Gravy

Nothing beats homemade gravy, and adding mushrooms adds a great depth of flavourPerfect to go with the Yorkshire puddings, on the potatoes, vegetables and more!

Roasted Veg

Roasting vegetables adds a touch of crispiness and brings out some natural sweetness with nutty undertones. If you think there’s a vegetable out there that you don’t like (*cough* radishes *cough*) try roasting it – the flavour can change drastically. Find 7 of our favourite roasted vegetable recipes that will go perfectly on their own, or with your Sunday Roast.

Dessert

The best part of any Sunday dinner is indulging in a sweet dessert. With apple season coming to an end, make these fun individual baked apple, apple pies.
