Simple Healthy Snacks to See You Through Until Mealtime and How to Save on them on SPUD

 

It’s that time of year when we’re all partied out from the festivities and indulgences of the holidays and thoughts turn to healthy eating and healthy snacks. I find if I keep a few easy things on hand, I am less likely to grab something that may not be the best choice. I don’t think foods should be classified as good, or bad, as a practice, but I know what foods make me feel great after eating, and what does not. Here are some of my favourite simple healthy snacks to keep on hand, and some tips on how to save money on these items when shopping on SPUD. Our procurement team is always looking to find the best produce out there for you, that’s sustainably grown, local if possible and sourced and delivered at the best price. Each week and month there will be specials that you can find in our flyer and weekly and you can always click on the produce page and look at the rotating ribbon at the top. 

This week there’s Pineapple, Avocados, Cucumber and Kiwi Fruit in the weekly Flyer, but it will vary by season. If there are items you buy on the regular, you can “subscribe and save” for extra savings.

Cooked Proteins

I’m often hungry sooner when I haven’t had a meal with some solid protein in it. Did you know that eggs are one of the healthiest foods out there?  Eggs are the most perfect healthy snacks to have on hand, just pre-boil some, peel and devour. I’m also fond of bite-size pieces of protein, chicken, fish, and steak portioned out in snack-sized servings. There’s always at least one sustainably raised animal protein on sale on SPUD! This week there’s salmon and chicken, as well as cheddar cheese.

SPUD sources snacks that are made with whole ingredients and without trans-fats and artificial ingredients, so you always know you are making a better choice. Some of my favourite brands include:

If you go to the Snack Category tab, you will see there’s a button on the side panel that shows you the type of snacks and one that shows you what’s on sale. We’ve often got Happy Hour deals that include snacks, veggies, and fruit, so there’s another way to save.

Protein Shakes, Smoothies and Powders

SPUD has a wide selection of protein powders, many plant-based. There’s that sale button on the side again, and you can also check out the imperfect produce tab under produce where there’s usually some ripe bananas lurking.
