This Friday is Rosh Hashannah. Rosh Hashanah means the “head of the year”, or the Jewish New Year. This year Rosh Hashannah begins at sundown on Friday, September 18th and ends at sundown on Sunday, September 20th Like many cultures, having a big feast is customary in Rosh Hashanah and the foods include honey cake, brisket, tzimmes, and more! But probably the most popular (and arguably the favourite part of the meal) is the Challah.  

 

What is Challah?  

Challah bread is a special bread in Jewish cuisine. It is usually braided and eaten on ceremonial occasions such as Shabbat and major Jewish holidays. Challah is made in various sizes and shapes, all of which have meaning.
