One way many people set off the New Year is with a juice cleanse. While juice cleansing can be a great way to flush out toxins and give your digestive system a break, it can be concerning when people go into it blindly. If you are planning to do a juice cleanse, here are some tips to help you achieve the best results!
DO’S
DO plan on doing a juice cleanse when you have time to relax, ideally with little physical, emotional, social or mental demands.
DO stay hydrated! Don’t just rely on your juicing to stay hydrated, drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of purified water daily. Herbal teas are great too. Water helps to dilute and eliminate toxic accumulation.
DO “chew” your juices – juices are not meant to be guzzled. Swishing the juice in your mouth stimulates digestive enzymes as digestion begins in the mouth.
DO get plenty of rest. Go to bed as early as you can and take naps if possible. Deep healing occurs during rest and relaxation. We could all use some rest after the Holiday Season craziness anyway 😉
DO research about what to expect. Headaches/body aches, fatigue, brain fog, skin breakouts, irritability, and extreme cravings are among the common side effects. Reoccurring health issues often get worse before they get better (i.e. acne, eczema).
DO cleanse with a friend!! Having the support from a friend or family member makes it so much easier as you are going through the experience together.
DONT’S
DON’T ignore hunger pains or signs of light headedness; try munching on vegetables or fruits.
DON’T overdo it! Adjust your exercise regime if you’re used to high intensity. Instead, go for a walk or a yoga class.
DON’T juice cleanse if you are someone with hypoglycemia, a pre-diabetic condition or diabetes, if you are pregnant, nursing, pre and post-surgery, underweight, or have nutritional deficiencies. Always best to consult your doctor before beginning any cleanse program.
DON’T end your fast without transitioning gently. Start by eating lighter foods like soups and veggies instead of reaching for the fried chicken right away.
