In honour of Women’s Day, we want to highlight some of our amazing women lead vendors that we have here at Spud.ca. Let us introduce you to Nada from Mother May I! 


What was your inspiration for starting up Mother May I dips?

I’m a big foodie, I love making food and sharing food. After having kids I was always looking for healthy alternatives to feed my boys. It was hard finding clean labels, no preservatives, and just all-around fresh, healthy foods. And this is when my love for hummus erupted! I have an ancient recipe and added a modern twist, and MotherMayi Hummus Dips were born. Vegan, gluten free, healthy and simply Ah-Mazing!


What is your creative process? How do you decide what to feature/create? 

There’s a few factors that come into play when deciding what to make and what to feature. Depending on what my kids are craving and what fresh foods the season is bringing. Come fall, I often like to play with the root vegetables, that’s where the sweet potato comes in. When I’m looking for a boost of nutrients with a pop of color, I bring out the beets and introduce the Roasted Beet Hummus. So it’s a mix of a few things that bring out the best of my yummy dips.

If you could tell yourself one thing before you started your business now, what would it be? 

Take the risk. Try something different. Get out of your comfort zone! Don’t not do it because it hasn’t been done. This is the advice that let me push the Baked Falafel flavor. Don’t give up, you have to fall a few times before you can get up. And once you’re up, it’s harder to fall. Kind of a crazy cycle, but I must say I enjoy it!


What do you hope to be instilling in your customers through their purchase of Mother May I?

I’ve always wanted to provide ‘Good for you foods’ that aren’t far from reach. Easy to pick up, and easy to eat, while providing you optimal nutrition. And of course variety, that’s where the different flavors come in. Besides the physical presence of my product, I want to instill passion and pride into people. Into Entrepreneurs looking to grow, people looking to share their passion. You can do anything you put your mind to, and MotherMayi products are proof of that. I take a lot of pride in what I do and my kids do too. Whenever they’re asked “What does your Mom do?” They answer ‘She makes lots of hummus and we eat it together’ and I wouldn’t have it any other way 


Last but not least, what is your favourite flavour of your dips?

The Roasted Beet Hummus. I love it! I can sit with a tub of the beet hummus and dip cucumbers in it all day everyday. Plus, the vibrant purple is pretty to look at and pretty to eat!
