Do Vegans Need Supplements?

There was a time many, many years ago that supplements weren’t even available but that was also a time when humans hadn’t robbed all the soil of natural nutrients and polluted our water and air with chemicals. In these times, regardless of your diet, good quality nutrients are a must if maintaining good health is important to you no matter what your diet consists of.

In the late 80’s I was diagnosed with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) which forced me to always be near a bathroom whenever I ate, never knowing when I would need it. One day back in August 1994, my husband and I watched an interesting segment on the Marilyn Dennis show. We listened to an interview she had with Sam Graci, from Salt Spring Island about a product he had come up with called Greens+, now available at drug & grocery stores around the country. Shortly afterwards we started with a daily intake of a Greens+ and noticed the positive effects immediately. To this day we continue our daily regime of powdered greens (vegan version) along with some quality, organic supplements from Spud. My IBS is completely gone along with the need to always be near a bathroom.

So do vegans need supplements? We supplement our diet with a quality multi-vitamin, extra vitamin C, D, B12, magnesium and Vitamin K2. Even though at home we only consume organic produce we eat out sometimes and still live with polluted air and water. A few anti-oxidant vitamins and plenty of exercise helps us to maintain our good health and ensure we get the nutrients we need; a minor investment in our future well worth a few pennies a day.
