Approximately 50,000+ children and youth were living in poverty in Calgary before the pandemic hit…
We have reached a successful end to our coat drive, and boy has it been a busy one!
Last month, we asked Spud customers to consider donating gently used coats and winter wear to our coat drive. By placing their donations in their Spud bins, these coats were then picked up by our drivers, and delivered to our warehouses. Once there, everything was sorted, folded, then redelivered to a partnered organization who would distribute the winter wear to those who needed it.
We’re thrilled to report that with your winter wear donations, the Spud coat drive collected over 1000 coats, along with hundreds of toques, scarves, and mittens. This has been a total team effort – from our wonderful customers digging through their closets for donations, to our drivers and staff packing up and delivering everything, to our partnered community organizations who are distributing this winter wear to those who need it! Many of us couldn’t imagine getting through the winter without a good coat, and we hope we’ve managed to turn that around for a few folks this winter.
Thank you to everyone who pitched in to make this happen!
When we’re fortunate enough to access what we need, when we need it, it can be easy lose sight of just how lucky we are. As part of our Spud mission, we emphasize the importance of community support, and we know that our customers embrace this as well. We love that Spud customers truly value the well-being of their local neighbourhoods and cities, which makes projects like this so exciting.
To help us find the best homes for all of this warm clothing, we’ve partnered with separate charities for each of our four locations. Get to know a few of your local community organizations by clicking the links below.
