Recently, there have been studies indicating that our planet is systematically being destroyed by our carelessness and lack of foresight. More wild animals are becoming extinct; more foods are being genetically modified; and more chemicals are turning up in water and soil, and our planet is warming. All of these things are detrimental to our survival and yet we do little and feel powerless to stop the destruction.
One thing all of us can do to help is to reduce our animal (farmed and wild) consumption. I am not unrealistic enough to believe the entire planet will become vegan overnight (as much as I would love it), but what I am suggesting is that you reduce your consumption of animal products. Replace a meal or two every week with a plant-based meal. There are some fabulous recipes available in the many vegan cookbooks on the market and everywhere on the net. Try some of the many nut milks and see if there is one you like that can be used in place of dairy. Try eating the food at some of the many vegan eateries in the city; you might just be surprised at how good it is. Animal agriculture plays a massive role in the planet’s destruction, so altering your eating habits can help.
Whether your food choices are fully vegan, mostly plant-based, or occasionally eating a vegan meal, every little bit helps. And you may find your health improving and waistline shrinking in the process. That is not to say vegans aren’t overweight or unhealthy. They can be both, but there are so many options and informational vegan sites on the internet that provide helpful advice. And by following the guidelines, you too can do your part to help heal our planet.
