I mean, you’re probably already devouring chocolate bars and downing bottles of wine at night, right? So why not combine the two and make red wine hot chocolate? The two are excellent on their own, but together, they create a rich concoction of holiday comfort and warmth unparalleled by any other comfort drink. Plus, you’re intaking double the amount of antioxidants! It’s a win-win situation.

All you’ll need is red wine, dark chocolate, and some whole milk. You can pick your favourite red wine, but if you’d like to customize the flavour of your red wine hot chocolate a little more, you can always be more specific with the varietals. For example, pick zinfandel for a fruity drink, shiraz for spicy, and cabernet franc for a more herbal version.

Red wine hot chocolate is super easy.

Red Wine Hot Chocolate

What you need:

  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 ½ cup whole milk
  • 2/3 cup dark chocolate

How to prepare:

  1. If you’re not using chocolate chips, crush up your chocolate bar so you can measure it out.
  1. Add all the ingredients into a pot over medium-low heat. As the chocolate melts, continue to stir constantly until the concoction is hot.
  1. Remove from heat and serve in a mug. You can also choose to add a pinch of salt, some vanilla, or even an orange peel for extra flavours.

And that’s it! Your new favourite comfort drink. We’re almost sure you’ll be drinking red wine hot chocolate even well past the holidays. And it’s perfectly justified.
