Lactuca Urban Farm began in 2012 in the backyard of Travis Kennedy’s Westmount home. In 2014, Travis and his business partner, Kevin Kossowan, a well-known local food advocate and filmmaker, moved to a one-acre site on the Northlands grounds.

Travis, Kevin and their crew grow “hyper-seasonal tweaked-out salad mixes full of herbs, blossoms, and odd varietals of tasty things that aren’t readily available”. These mixes have made them famous on Edmonton’s local food scene. They sell the greens to local restaurants (Three Boars, The Duchess, RGE RD, Canteen…) as well as sell their produce at the 124 street Grand Market. This year on their new site they have also added tomatoes, beets, carrots, and potatoes to their list of crops.

Kevin and Travis share a keen interest in building a successful urban agriculture business model. They are really grateful for the progressive chefs in Edmonton who are embracing their greens and are equally indebted to all of those that come to the markets regularly to re-stock their urban-farmed salad mix for the week.

Lactuca Lettuce is grown 10 kilometers from the Spud Edmonton Warehouse.
