Apple Crumble Croissants

Description

The perfect way to level up your croissants for fall! Use your favourite frozen croissant dough for an extra speedy treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • Store-bought croissants
  • 1 egg white, lightly whisked

For the apple filling:

  • 3 apples, cut into small cubes
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 3 tbsp apple butter (optional)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt

For the crumble topping:

  • 6 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 4 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 pinch kosher salt
  • 5 tbsp old-fashioned oats
  • 2 tbsp slivered almonds
  • 4 tbsp butter, cold and cut into small pieces

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Prepare the apple filling. In a saucepan over medium heat, add all filling ingredients. Add a splash of water and put on a lid to let the apples cook. Cook until the apples until they are soft but still maintain their shape. Set aside to cool.

Next, prepare the crumble topping. Whisk together flour, oats, almonds, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt until combined. Add in the cold butter and work in with hands until small lumps form.

Cut the croissants in half lengthwise and place on a lined baking sheet. Spoon in the cooked apple filling. Be sure to not overfill. Place on the top half of the croissant.

Lightly brush each croissant top with the whisked egg white. Pack on the crumble topping. Bake croissants until the crumble top is golden, about 15 minutes.

Dust with icing sugar. Enjoy them warm out of the oven or at room temperature.
