Straus Family Creamery

Straus is a family-owned dairy farm. Bill Straus began farming in 1941 with just 23 cows on the beautiful shores of Tomales Bay and the Point Reyes National Seashore, 60 miles north of San Francisco. Ellen Straus, his wife, read the book Silent Spring by Rachel Carson in the early 1960s and began the Straus family’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability. Straus has been farming for more than 65 years. In 1994 Straus Family Creamery became the first certified organic dairy west of the Mississippi River. Straus Family Creamery has won gold medals at the Los Angeles County Fair, The American Cheese Society and the California State Fair. Straus Family Creamery has been named the Best Butter in America by House and Garden Magazine. Straus products have been called “extraordinary” by Martha Stewart, who has featured Straus dairy, creamery and products on her television show.
