DIY OF THE WEEK: ORANGE CANDLES

Making candles can be a hassle with all the materials like wax, candle wick, container, and the countless steps that go with it. Plus, a lot of wax on the market really isn’t at all environmentally friendly. We’re going to show you the easiest, most sustainable candle you can make at home. All you need are oranges, any vegetable oil, and fire!

Easy steps to make your own DIY orange candles.

Step 1. Cut the orange in half.

Step 2. Slice around the orange flesh, making sure not to puncture any holes through the orange peel.

Step 3. Scoop out the orange flesh, making sure not to pull out the stem in the middle.

Step 4. Make sure the inside of the orange is nice and clean like this with the stem attached!

Step 5. Pour in any vegetable oil half way up the stem. Make sure the stem is lightly oiled as well.

Not a single part of the orange goes to waste, and these candles burn for a few good hours! Not to mention the orange tasted delicious. This also works on any citrus, including grapefruits, lemons, and even limes.

For ultimate safety, we made this in the confines of our Spud kitchen right beside a fire extinguisher (because you never know), so make sure not to do anything silly when working with a knife and fire! And be sure to set your finished orange candles on a plate for safety reasons, and in case of any leaks.

Now order some oranges from us and show us your best DIY orange candles.
